Building a Kinder Future: Why the Global Empathy Campus in Lusaka Matters Now More Than Ever

Updated: Jun 27

At a time when the world is grappling with deepening inequality, famine, conflict, and ecological collapse, the call for compassion has never been louder. From the devastating toll of wars and hunger to the silent suffering of neglected animals and forgotten communities, it’s clear that the systems we rely on are no longer working.

The Global Empathy Project is answering that call — by building the first-of-its-kind Global Empathy Campus in Lusaka, Zambia. More than just buildings, this is a blueprint for healing — for people, the planet, and animals in Africa.

The Vision: A Campus Rooted in Empathy

Empathy isn’t just a soft skill or an emotional gesture — it’s a radical and necessary response to the crises of our time. It's the foundation of sustainable development, social repair, and animal welfare.

That’s why we’re creating a self-sustaining, multi-purpose campus where empathy drives every initiative — from mental health support and food security to youth education and animal rescue.

Welcome to the Lusaka Campus: a place where healing and hope are made real.

What We're Creating

🐾 A Sanctuary for Animal Welfare

Our campus will feature a 24/7 Veterinary Clinic, Animal Rescue Shelter, Equine Therapy Centre, Adoption Hub, and a Cattery & Cat Café. We aim to become a regional leader in protecting and rehabilitating animals in Africa, offering services, sanctuary, and education that strengthen the human-animal bond.

🏥 Community Healing & Mental Health Support

With trauma counselling, mindfulness spaces, a local cooperative, and accommodation for volunteers, the campus is designed to support emotional well-being and community resilience at every level.

📚 Youth Development & Education

An Education Centre offering sports, theatre, entrepreneurship, and life-skills training will help young people thrive in an ever-changing world. It’s about more than academics — it’s about unlocking potential through connection and creativity.

🌱 Sustainability & Food Security

From hydroponics and indigenous nurseries to a farm-to-table restaurant and roadside shop, we’re not only feeding families — we’re teaching sustainable, scalable food production and economic independence.

Why Now?

Because empathy is no longer optional — it’s essential.

When faced with rising violence, polarisation, ecological degradation, and global displacement, the most powerful thing we can do is build systems rooted in compassion. Systems that treat every life as valuable — whether it walks on two legs or four.

Empathy dissolves division. It mends what’s broken. It connects what’s been cut off. And it’s the thread that binds every part of our vision together.

The Impact Ahead

Here’s what the Lusaka Campus will enable:

  • Mass sterilisation and animal rescue operations to combat cruelty, neglect, and the dog meat trade

  • Service dog training that transforms rescued animals into anti-poaching, therapy, and support companions

  • Empathy through sports to develop emotional intelligence and teamwork in youth

  • Sustainable agriculture training to improve food security and economic empowerment

  • Creative arts & theatre programmes to inspire compassion and resilience

  • A community co-op and weekend market to support local business and skills development

  • Trauma relief initiatives for survivors of abuse, poverty, and exploitation

  • Public spaces including a dog park, garden of remembrance, and wellness zones to foster joy and connection

This is not just an animal shelter or a community centre. It’s a living, breathing model for a more compassionate world.

How You Can Help Build the Campus

We’ve secured the land. We’ve laid the vision. Now we need you — individuals, changemakers, and partners — to help us bring this dream into reality.
