The dog meat trade in Africa varies significantly across different regions and countries. In some parts of Africa, particularly in certain rural areas, the consumption of dog meat has cultural and traditional roots, often associated with certain ceremonies or beliefs. Additional complexities of poverty and food insecurity have also bolstered the trade, with many informal vendors.

However, the practice is increasingly being criticised due to significant concerns about animal welfare, public health risks, and the spread of diseases such as rabies. In many urban areas, attitudes towards consuming dog meat are changing, with growing awareness about the ethical and health implications of the trade. Empathy in action is key to changing these attitudes.
Our rescue centre aims to treat all animals rescued from this barbaric trade both medically and emotionally, to educate the public, and to rehome animals into loving environments. This effort forms part of our ongoing work in empathy-driven projects dedicated to ending cruelty and promoting sustainability initiatives that protect animals and people from harm.

Our Vision
The fight against the dog meat trade is critical in protecting animals and promoting ethical change. Your donation supports our cross border interventions and our rescue centre where we provide medical care, emotional healing, and rehome animals rescued from this cruel practice. Together, we can create a future where empathy, respect, and kindness prevail.
